I’m predicting that Banjo-Kazooie 3 is going to get an average of 82 points on Metacritic, with 71 being the lowest and 92 being the highest.

I went and checked the scores on Metacritic and the highest score on there is 91 by 1UP (I am disregarding Giant Bomb’s 100, because that web site is full with bullshit “WTF” scores) and the lowest score on an avarage is 70. I should be doing predictions for gaming companies.

Now okay, why am I telling you this? Because the way I got through it was 10 minutes at a time. I kept telling myself that I could just tolerate the discomfort for 10 minutes. At the end of that 10 minutes I signed up for another 10 minutes. And pretty soon it was just 10 minutes to my house and my bathroom.

The 10-minute rule works for all kinds of discomfort, including the ones generated by your inner brat - that primitive part of your mind that keeps ruining your best efforts. Why 10 minutes? Well, I’ve found that 10 minutes is all that it takes for my anxiety to diminish and for my inner brat to calm down.

For example, imagine you want to accomplish something that you’ve been procrastinating all day – such as cleaning out your house, finishing up homework or following through on a personal project. The first 5 minutes are the hardest. You feel antsy, unfocused, maybe even annoyed. Your inner brat complains in the back of your mind that it really doesn’t feel like doing it right now, so you just keep putting that work off.

But if you ignore your inner brat’s fighting and focus on what you are to do, something incredible happens. You’ll find that you gradually become calmer and your ability to concentrate improves. Before you know it, your 10 minutes are up. Now it’s up to you to decide whether to continue for another 10. This time it will be a lot easier.

What about when you have to refrain from something? Let’s say you’re thinking about that delicious bag of potato chips in the next room; or you know that you must stop playing video games?

It’s the same thing – get busy for 10 minutes. But make sure that you’re busy enough to not think about what you’re craving, because thinking about it really magnifies that craving. Again, the first 5 minutes are the hardest, but surely you can tolerate only 5 minutes of discomfort, can’t you? When you break life into 10-minute chunks you can do (or refrain from) just about anything you set your mind to. Be limited by nothing!

We all know how to spend our money, but do we fully understand how to save it? I am not talking about setting aside a reserve for an investment or rainy day purposes – both of which are good things – rather, saving money on everyday items. Here are some simple ways you can save money:

1. Comparison Shop
Shopping online gives you the opportunity to compare prices and for almost any product imaginable. Order online if the item is cheaper than ordering in person, which usually happens to be the case. Don’t forget to take into consideration shipping, handling, and possibly taxes when ordering via the web though. Fortunately, many online retailers offer free shipping when ordering over a certain amount.

2. Clip Those Coupons
You can save on your shopping excursions by clipping coupons. Some stores will even double or triple manufacturers’ coupons up to a specified amount as an added incentive to bring you in. In over a month, you could be saving upwards of $100 just on groceries alone.

3. Visit Your Local Library
Large book retailers offer a wide selection of books to their customers. However, you may be able to find that same title at your free public library. If not, ask a librarian if she would order the book for you. A free book is better than the $25 you would have paid for a bestseller and expensive Starbubcks coffee.

4. Recycle
Maybe the item you are planning on tossing away can be used again. However, if you definitely have no use for it, just sell it on Craigslist or Ebay and keep the earnings.

5. Free Samples
Manufacturers enjoy giving away samples of their products. Sometimes all it takes is a letter or an email to the appropriate department and your freebie will arrive in the mail in the form of merchandise or as a coupon allowing you to purchase the item locally for free. You can find plenty of free sample deals online as well, such as on Fat Wallet.

Do some of these five money saving ideas whenever you just can and you could be saving hundreds of dollars a month and thousands a year.
