Do you happen to own a web site of your own? If you do, I’m sure you know how boring and time consuming it is to re-design a web site or update small portions of it when the site is made out of hundreds of static HTML pages. Sure, you can use CSS style-sheets on your web site and edit the fonts and some of the layout, but you can’t make fundamental layout changes without getting deep into that code. So what can you do to save valuable time? Well, that’s a question I was asking myself a while ago, but I have recently figured out the answer: TextPad.
1. Download & Install TextPad
You can download TextPad from right here. The program as a whole is free for a never-ending evaluation, but in exchange it displays a notice at each run. More than fair, if you ask me. However, if you can’t deal with the little pop-up notice, you may get rid of it by buying a license for about $32. While the program is worth every cent of that, I personally wouldn’t pay for just removing a three second notice, being a “starving” college student and all.
2. Open TextPad & Drag Your Files Into It
Now open TextPad and grab every single HTML file you want updated and drop it into TextPad. Then go to “Search > Replace” in the menu bar. Under “Find What” put the code you want replaced and under “Replace With” enter the code you want to replaced with. Once you got that down, select these settings and hit “Replace All”:
3. You’re Finished!
Now just go into “File > Save All” in the menu bar and voilĂ , you’re done! You have made the necessary changes to all of your files! As a side note, before you make any changes to your files, make sure to create a copy of them, just in case!
