Nintendo has just released a new service yesterday on their Nintendo Wii console, called the “Nintendo Channel”. This channel allows one to watch video game trailers, advertisements, and at one point even interviews, mini-documentaries, and video game walkthrough tips. There’s also the option to rate the Wii games you have played before (for at least an hour) on your system by filling out a very basic, short questionnaire. While this feature is quite useless to us users, it could possibly shape the titles that would be released in the future.
There’s another feature which allows you to search the Wii’s full game library and have the channel suggest you games that you might be interested in based on your system usage. One of the first games that popped up for me was “Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey”. Thus, either the suggestion system is flawed at the moment or my console is trying to tell me something. There’s also a button on each game’s page that allows you to purchase the title from different major vendors through the use of the Opera Internet Browser. Neat feature, but I personally would never use it for certain reasons.
Now, I saved the best feature of the channel for last! You can download game demos to your Nintendo DS using the DS Download Service. That’s right, you just turn on your DS, select a game demo on the Wii, and then in less than a minute or so you will be able to play it! The following demos are on the channel at the moment:
- Brain Age 2
- Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
- Crosswords DS
- Jam Sessions
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends
- Disney Friends
- Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
All in all, this channel is great and definitely worth the download. I have been waiting for something like this ever since the system was released.
